Can you please tell women out there not to ask about our pasts!

Can you please tell women out there not to ask about our pasts! They don't really want to know. What they want you to say is: "There was really no one until I met you." But they know it's not true. So they insist upon knowing and then get made if you mention something nice about an ex. Why do they ask?

Dear Ed
Hell if I know. But I think you're right - they don't really want to know about the women themselves, they want to know how they compare to what you've had in the past to see what their chances are at success. Crazy, but men have their own hangups.
If she asks and you don't want to answer, then tell her you don't want to be reminded of bad times and the good times in the past make you a better person to be with now - and that's where you want to live - in the present. You have the right to a past and to privacy. If she pushes too much, that's a sign of insecurity masking as curiousity or control and while one, in moderation, is cute, the other is totally undesirable.
