How can you tell if a guy just wants to be friends?

How can you tell if a guy just wants to be friends? There is this guy named Clark and weve been friends for almost our whole lives. I know I like him a little more than that and thought I would be honest and tell him. He says he isnt looking for a girlfriend, but he does like our friendship and doesnt want to lose it. I told him he wouldnt. ever since then, he has been giving me compliments and weve seemed to have grown closer. I even catch him looking at me with a funny look on his face. Some of my friends tell me to stick around him because hes discovering that he does like me. Other friends are saying I should let the situation be. What do you think?

Dear Cara,
There are many different ways to tell if he just wants to be friends - they way YOU can tell is because he told you so and hasn't done anything to let you know he's changed his mind. What you need to do is stop letting your friends play in your head, because every minute you try to read something, is one minute gone from the friendship you both said you wanted to maintain.
Stop looking for it, even if it's there, it's up to Clark to let you know.
Stick around for the friendship, but leave yourself open to dating new people who come around.
