How do I go about knowing if he would be interested in something other than just being friends?

I'm 16 and I hang around with a group of friends that includes both boys and girls. We all get along well and have a good time, but lately, one of the guys has been on my mind more than the others. I think he's funny, and sweet, just like the other guys, but there's something about him that makes him stand out. How do I go about knowing if he would be interested in something other than just being friends? I could ask some of the others in the group, but then the word would get out and if he doesn't like me, everyone will know.

Kyra

Dear Krya,

You're right, don't go to anyone else in the group - go to him. But if he tells someone in the group, it will still get around. No matter what, if he likes you or if he doesn't, it's going to get around the group. So, if you decide you are ready for the consequences if it works out or it doesn't, then by all means, ask the guy a simple question: would he be interested in doing some stuff away from the rest of the group. If you guys really do get along well,he should tell you right away whether he thinks it's a good idea or not. Take either answer graciously, but if the answer is he'd rather be friends, accept the answer and tell him you're glad that you can still be friends because dating or not, you think he's a cool guy.
