How do I tell him I'd be more comfortable keeping things quiet?

I am a woman who is definitely closing in on middle aged. I went through a divorce about seven year ago and it has taken me that long to get my legs back under me and go out without making myself a nervous wreck.

The good new is I've rediscovered the zest for life I had as a younger woman and this has made me attractive to some younger men.

I have become involved with a younger guy - the sex is amazing and that's about all I'm after, though I admit he is a fun guy to hang around with, but there is certainly no future.

Here's the problem - he's a friend of my nephew's and he wants to tell everyone, including my nephew, that we're seeing each other because he wants to make us openly a couple.

This isn't what I want, but I don't want to stop seeing him. How do I tell him I'd be more comfortable keeping things quiet?

Edie

Dear Edie

By saying "I'd be more comfortable if we kept things on the DL for right now. But don't be surprised if he doesn't want to do it, and you rightfully cannot ask him to. Since he wants the relationship to head in a different direction than you do, you are going to have to be mature enough to tell him you weren't looking for a long term thing and it may be time to stop seeing each other. Don't keep him around just because the sex is good knowing he wants you to be a real couple unless your zest for life also means being a player.

I think it's great you can inspire such feelings but play fair - and either way, be prepared for your nephew to look at you a little differently
