How long does someone have to be dating before seeing someone else is considered cheating? I have been seeing someone for about two months and last week I saw an old boyfriend and we ended up in bed together. I have to admit there was alcohol involved, and the guy I am seeing found out about it and says he doesn’t want to see me anymore because I cheated. I don’t think two months makes us enough of a couple for me to have cheated. How long do we have to date before we’re a considered a couple?

You’re a couple the moment both of you agree you are – whether that’s a day, a year, or two months. If you have given any indication that the two of you were exclusive, then you’ve cheated. If, on the other hand, there was no agreement that you would see each other exclusively, you haven’t cheated, however, you don’t inspire confidence of being trustworthy when it only took eight weeks before you slept with someone else. Most people are still in the ‘best behavior’ mode. The person you’re seeing is right to reconsider prolonging the relationship.
