How to Make Your Date Feel Comfortable

Going on a date can make people feel uncomfortable for a multitude of reasons. And if you're a guy trying to show a girl a good time, something seemingly innocent can end up transforming the evening into an unspoken anxiety attack.

If you're looking to forge a lasting relationship, it's a good idea to do some things to make your date feel comfortable. With a little preplanning and common sense, you can avoid any fretfulness and enjoy a great date.

Dates are not a Hands-On Experience
Touching your date the wrong way can easily bring on those uncomfortable feelings. There's no race going to see who can touch the most. In fact, while on the date, you shouldn't be trying to grope at your date at all. Keep your hands off your date and avoid negative consequences.

Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner
If you're going into a restaurant and have a table with a seat facing the wall, that's the seat the guy should take. As a courtesy, men, don't leave your date sitting with her back to everything. Let her get into position so she can see everything that's happening around her. It's a good way to make her feel more comfortable.

You Might Hear Her, But Are You Listening?
When your date speaks, it's important to pay attention. Even if it's a topic you're not overly fond of and it's boring you silly, you should still pay attention, look into her eyes, and be engaged in the conversation. Being distant will signal that you're either not into her at all or are only there for what could possibly happen after the date.

The Rock Star Treatment
Okay, you don't want to tackle your date in a fit of idol worship and ask her for her autograph. That's not what the “rock star” treatment means. Instead, this is where you can treat her like something really special. Wait on her. Open doors for her. Bring the flowers. Act as if she is important to you.

Keep the Weirdo in you at Bay
If your date seems into you, this might cause your brain to signal that it's time to give her the "look." Guys, you know what I'm talking about – the undressing her with the eyes and trying to be overtly sultry look. Knock that stuff out. Also, even if she's into the date, watch what you're saying around her. Don't get into any uncomfortable topics or ask her anything too personal. Keep it friendly and informative.
