I have told them they are being disrespectful but they have persisted

I am a recent widower and I have two children: one girl 14 and a son 12. I have started dating again and sometimes I bring these women home with me. I am careful to have them out of the house early in the morning, but my children still know whats going on. They have said some disparaging remarks about these women without even meeting them. I have told them they are being disrespectful but they have persisted. How do I handle this situation? I am enjoying the company of these women and will be with them at their place if need be.

ED

Dear Ed

Oh Dad, Poor Dad, he's got to change his sex life, and he's feeling so sad. SO, you're willing to go to these women's places. Who's gonna be with the kids while you do that? I don't want to begrudge you a sex life, but the kids are disparaging the women because they can't disparage you.

The rules change when kids are involved; that's just how it goes. Do you have a right to a sex life? Certainly, but you said you're a recent widow and maybe the kids think you've moved a little too quickly and are dishonoring their mother's memory.

Sit down with your kids and talk things through, use a counselor if necessary,so you can all get your feelings out.

You may have to be willing not to bring these women home (Or to spend untold hours at their places). Your kids should not be allowed to hold your hostage, but you could show a little more sensitivity to their feelings.
