I am a Christian but the guy I am dating is not

I am a Christian but the guy I am dating is not. He’s not an atheist he just doesn’t have a particular faith belief. As we continue our relationship, this has become a bigger issue for me. I don’t know that I can see myself involved with someone who doesn’t believe in God. Is it possible for people with different views to have a good relationship?

Take a step back, girl, because you have some contradictions in your question. You say you are a Christian and he isn’t. You say he’s not an atheist and then you say he doesn’t believe in God – which is what an atheist is. He may not be Christian, but that is far from not believing in God. Muslims, Buddhists, Baha’is all believe in God and some acknowledge Christ but don’t have him as the head of their church.

There are tons of successful interreligious relationships whether it’s two different Christian religions or Christian/non-Christian relationships. The thing to do is get clear on what’s important and to agree to have mutual respect for the other person’s beliefs. The base of all religions is love and the doing of God’s work and His will. Two people of faith should be able to keep that in mind as they start and continue a relationship as it is the core of the belief system. To answer your question, yes, it is possible for people with different views to have a good relationship. It takes a willingness to look at the other person’s view without insisting it become your own.
