We've never done anything a girlfriend and boyfriend would do

What should I do? I have a friend who I want to be more than a friend. We've been part of the same group for about nine years. We're in high school now and we're going to the same college in the fall. Every time he goes out with someone, I get tense and distant and then when he tells me everything that goes wrong, I am the one to help him heal. He's noticed that I make myself scarce whenever he gets a new girl and he says he wishes I didn't disappear. We've never been kissed and we've never done anything a girlfriend and boyfriend would do, but I would like to see if we could be. Should I tell him?

It's a tricky situation, but the telling thing in your question is that you get tense and distant and he notices. He already knows something is up but he may think you're leaving him alone out of respect instead of the real reason: you like the guy. If you're going to be at the same school in the fall, you can keep your mouth shut and watch as a new crop of girls try and win him over. That should have you tense and distant for quite some time or you can come clean and let him know you have feelings that go beyond friendship. Either he will return those feelings enough to see if the two of you can be something other than friends, or he will let you down easy. Either way, you will know where you stand and that's what you need to know.
