Interracial Relationships By Tim Blackstock
Interracial relationships are becoming more commonplace every year. With the increasing immigration rates in developed countries all over the world, people of varied ethnicities and cultures come in contact with each other. Because of this, it's only natural that interracial romances develop.
Multicultural societies have the highest rate of interracial relationships. This is because people of different cultures interact with each other on a daily basis. Usually, when people in multicultural societies get together socially, they don't see "someone of a different culture". Instead, they see "another person". This is because people of mixed races and nationalities are prevalent in their area, and most of them grew up with this kind of diverse environment.
There are several reasons why the increasing rate of interracial relationships is a good thing. The most obvious reason is that by coming together with members of different cultures and nations, we get to learn more about them. This could allow us to let go of our own racial prejudices. It could also increase true understanding, appreciation, and respect among people of different cultures.
We also get to learn a lot about ourselves through interracial relationships. Despite the differences in culture, people are very similar. We all feel the need to be loved, we all like to relax and have time for leisure, and we all have fears. Our lives become richer when we realize that culture, nationality, and race are only small facets of a much larger person. True, the differences in culture may present a problem in romantic relationships, but this is why most interracial couples tend to last longer. By overcoming their differences in culture, philosophy, and race, these couples form stronger emotional bonds to each other.
One of the major problems of interracial relationships is that sometimes, the lovers' families do not approve of their relationship. Although we live in a progressive world, some people still want to keep their bloodlines and lineage "pure". There's also the issue of raising children. Some people believe that children raised by interracial parents may have problems in terms of what culture he or she should identify with. The solution to this problem is that interracial relationships should raise their children to be come good, ethical adults who will not define themselves to belong exclusively in one racial group. Developing a strong personal identity is more important than developing a cultural identity that can be narrowed down into one group. After all, the world is slowly becoming smaller and the borders between cultures are starting to break down.
The success rate of interracial relationships just proves that it's not what you are that counts in the game of love, it's who you are. It's about finding another person, falling in love, and making a strong commitment to each other. Despite many obstacles, true love often prevails whether you're in an interracial relationship or not.
