Despite some misconceptions, dating in the Jewish community isn't unlike dating in any other community. Typically the only differences are moral implications that often conflict with dating and sexuality, but it is not just the Jewish community that feels these pressures. Jewish singles often meet through their synagogues, at Jewish singles groups, and even online on dating websites that are specifically for Jewish singles. Many websites are great because they allow singles to get together who have never met before. Young Jewish singles often want to date around but face pressures from their families to date only other Jewish people. Very strict Jewish families believe that Jewish women should only marry Jewish men so that their children can be raised in a loving, religious home. This can be difficult for singles if they go out to clubs and don't have the opportunity to meet very many Jewish singles their age that share their interests. This is often where the Internet comes into play! And, some of these Jewish dating sites work out better than the singles had ever anticipated. Through online dating websites Jewish singles can post their profiles for all to see. This way, they know that the only people that will be contacting them will be of a certain age and will likely have similar interests. This not only satisfies their need to date people they find interesting, but it will also be a relationship that their families would approve of. Of course, many singles decide that they want to be with someone that isn't Jewish, and some families will accept this and others will not. Online dating communities specifically for Jewish singles give all singles an opportunity to mix with new people and hopefully meet someone that they like and their families will approve of! Either way, Jewish online dating communities give Jewish singles the opportunity to meet other singles that share their social and spiritual beliefs. This works out very well for a lot of people because they meet people that don't attend their synagogue, don't live in their area, or are new to town. Synagogue singles meetings are only so beneficial if the same singles attend week after week and no one new joins the group! Online dating websites allow for Jewish singles to broaden their horizons a bit, even if they keep going to the same clubs and groups that they have been attending.
