Dating Someone Who Is Jewish When You Aren't

A lot of people assume that they really don't care about the religion of those that they date, that is until they start to date someone that is a different religion than them. If you are dating someone that is Jewish and you aren't, you may wonder what that means for the future of your relationship. Many couples are able to fall in love and stay together while believing in two different faiths.
You may feel odd about the fact that you are dating someone that is not the same religion as you, but in the grand scheme of things it may actually help you grow as a person. You can learn things about the Jewish religion and culture that you didn't know before. You may find that you can dismiss misconceptions that you had about Jewish people as well as the Jewish faith, which will help you become a better person.
A person is not their religion; instead their whole life is influenced by their faith. Because faith is something different to every person you may be able to comfortably date someone of any faith, including someone who is Jewish when you are not. You may find that one Jewish person approaches his or her faith in a completely different way than the other, and that will obviously affect how you view both and whether you are able to comfortably date either.
If you are casually dating someone who is Jewish, chances are it will not affect you and you won't even really have to consider it. Many people don't even reveal their religion to others until they get to know one another better, so you may not even know in the beginning of a relationship. If things start to get serious and you realize you are dating someone is Jewish when you are not you need to determine how you feel about it. Chances are it won't be that big of a deal, but you have to be honest with one another about how your families may feel.
If your relationship gets serious you don't have to become Jewish, but it is a good idea to learn more about the religion. Even if you are not Jewish you will likely find its origins fascinating and you may learn more about your loved one as a result. While you may not share the same religion, it's a good idea to make attempts to share your faith with one another in some way or another so that it doesn't become a wedge between the two of you.
