Dating For Seniors

Dating for some seniors is very exciting because they feel as though they are young and can do anything. Other seniors dread dating because they simply don't have the energy that they used to and they find that building new relationships is far too time consuming. Luckily, more and more seniors are realizing that they don't have to be by themselves just because of their age, they can go out and meet some lovely people that they have a good time with. Sure, you may not be as young as spring time anymore, but that doesn't mean that you have to stop having fun or even stop falling in love. Dating when you are a senior is great because you get to act silly, have fun, yet you still have everything you have learned in your life in the back of your mind so that you can have fun the smart way.

Many elderly people start dating again after the death of their spouse, so they aren't quite sure what to do or if there is some sort of etiquette that they should be following. The fact is there isn't much of etiquette to this sort of thing. When you are tired of being cooped up in the house by yourself or always being the third wheel when out with friends, why shouldn't you start dating? These are your golden years and you'll never get to live them again, so you shouldn't live them alone if you don't want to.

Often times the younger generations just assume that when a spouse dies that the other spouse will be single forever. It's sort of a double standard because when younger people lose their spouse they are urged to move on. Society often considers seniors asexual and not social outside of their own family and old friends, but this simply isn't the case. There are several studies to suggest that seniors live happier, healthier, and longer lives after a spouse dies when they become more social and begin dating or find love again.

Dating as an oap can be a lot of fun because you know who you are and you aren't afraid to be exactly that. Many seniors say that if they could go back and date at 20 or keep dating as a senior they would stay right where they are because there is a comfort in dating when you are comfortable in your own skin. Seniors can find all sorts of great things to do together such as travel, take part in arts and crafts, enjoy athletics together, take dancing lessons, and simply enjoy life as a couple instead of two singles. More and more seniors are stepping into the dating world and having a darn good time doing it, too!
