Tip #1 The Dating Site
Some dating sites actually conduct background checks on all of their members to ensure as much safety as possible to the online dating community. However, don't simply rely on the dating website to do the background check for you. You should make sure that is their policy or else have a background check run yourself. They don't cost that much and when it comes to your safety it is certainly worthwhile. So, always check out if the dating site performs background searches and if not conduct one yourself.
Tip #2 You Might Not Know Their Real Name
Remember if you decide to run a background check that you might not have the real name of the person you are dating online. If all the information they give you doesn't check out then you might be clued into something strange. Make sure you don't share any of your own private information and you should be ok.
Tip #3 Lying is Easy Online
In fact, you have probably even done it yourself. You are trying to get a guy/girl to like you so you make yourself a couple inches taller or a few pounds lighter. Regardless of whether it's a big lie or not you may have done it. So, consider that if you have lied that others may have or may be lying as well. When you let this reality sink in you quickly see that background checks are incredibly important especially when it is so easy to create an identity on the Internet. There are many sexual predators out there who prey on women, and men, too, in order to take advantage of them. There are also those folks who are searching for a particular type of person they can create a loving relationship with and then steal their money, identity, or more. Since lying online is so easy everyone needs to be aware of the importance of background checks. And, that even if the background check comes out clean that doesn't' mean that the individual necessarily has the right intentions.
These are just a couple of the things you should know about online dating and background checks. At any point in time you have the right to conduct a background check on someone you don't trust or someone you are considering dating. This is an intelligent decision because it shows you are making yourself and your safety a priority.
