Could it be my friend is just jealous?

I attend a prep school where kids from all across the country attend. At the beginning of the school year, I started dating a girl who leaves a few states away. Now that it is coming to the end of the school year, Im afraid she will forget me over the summer. I told another girl, who is strictly a friend, that I was thinking of proposing. She said I was crazy and that no one forgets anyone over the summer and if she found someone else in the three months she was away, then that wasnt anyone I should consider marrying anyway. Could it be my friend is just jealous? What do you think?

Dear Oscar
I think your friend should sub for me when I'm on vacation. It's possible she could be jealous, but she makes a great deal of sense. You're far to young to get yourself engaged to anyone; especially because you think being two states away will cause her to forget you.
Proposals are serious undertakings that adults often get wrong with many more resources at their disposal than you have.
If you're sure you aren't going to forget her, have enough trust in her and confidence in yourself that you are just as unforgettable.
