Do women really mean it when they say they ‘just want to be friends?’

About as much as men mean it when they say ‘I’ll call you.” Men and women use ‘signal phrases’ as a way of trying to let the other one down easy when things aren’t going to work out. When a woman says she just wants to be friends – it doesn’t mean she wants to be your friend. It means she doesn’t want to be your girlfriend, lover, or significant other. Do yourself a favor and take her at her word. Don’t press for an explanation – there’s not one that will make you feel better about yourself. Cut your losses and move on to the next opportunity
