Affairs in the Office By Lorraine Harper
An affair in the office can be sizzling hot and filled with excitement. Working with someone day in and day out can easily lead to a special kind of closeness that can grow into an exhilarating romance. Unfortunately, this wildfire relationship can just as easily be squelched, creating an awkward situation for everyone involved.
For just this reason, reports indicate that more than 25% of companies have policies specifically forbidding workplace romances. Of course, these policies do little to keep those who are undeniably attracted to each from getting together. They do, however, help protect the company from liability in the event an office affair does go sour.
The sad truth is, most office affairs end. And, many of them dont end pleasantly. In addition, even people in good relationships have days in which they need to be away from the other person. Because of this unpleasantness, office affairs have a history of reducing company productivity. This is because fighting between articles takes time away from everyday work tasks. This could be due to bickering between the two who are having the affair. Or, it could be purposely avoiding the other person, which can lead to a breakdown in productivity.
These office affairs can also affect the work of co-workers who get caught up in he said, she said battles. Or, even worse, who are forced to take sides. This can ultimately lead to an increased workload for other co-workers, who need to compensate for the decrease in productivity from the scorned lovers and their defenders.
Another unfortunate side effect of office affairs is that it can cause employees to lose respect for the company or, in some cases, lead to accusations of favoritism and discrimination. In some cases, office affairs can even lead to cases of sexual harassment.
Though office affairs can be exciting and can provide great opportunities for romance, there are many factors to consider before jumping into one of these relationships.
