Why do Men Cheat? By Hanna Miller
Hearts wander just as often as they fall into love, be sure about that. And when it comes to who cheats more, men or women, it's usually a matter of who hides it from their partner better. The fact of the matter is that no one gender is more likely to cheat. However, there is a perception in society that it's somehow expected of a man to do so and forbade of a woman.
Any woman who's ever had to deal with the heartbreak of a cheating lover knows all too well that it was totally unexpected and unnecessary. But why would a guy cheat in the first place? Did he fall out of love with you? Were you having some jealousy issues and revenge was sought? Or is he simply an opportunist?
Why men cheat on the women they love is a question that's been asked by plenty, and quite possibly never solved by anyone.
The best way to find a possible answer is to examine what draws men to women so hopefully you can nip a future cheater in the bud or at least find some reasoning in why your lover was unfaithful.
While the fight for men-women equality has exposed that women are just as intelligent and just as fit to hold nearly every position thought to be a "man's", there are still some major differences in the way the two brains are hardwired.
Long, long before nightclubs and Twitter, early humans had to brave the elements in nearly impossible conditions and truly fight for survival. This led to men becoming the primary hunters and procreators, and led to women becoming the nurturers and protectors of their young.
Natural selection creates a deadly mix of for-the-moment attraction that common sense and even love is sometimes unable to fend off. Now, that's not making excuses for a man's cheating. It's just being realistic that the instinct to procreate as often as possible is not bred out of us. It creates a drive that is always there, just like the drive to eat and to stay alive.
The trick in fighting this is to make sure you rule the roost and that other comers are perceived as lesser suitors, unfit to carry his seed. Yes, I know; it sounds as base and primitive as it gets. But remember: technology hasn't made any of us any less of an animal.
Most guys won't just "sleep with anything" like the stereotype suggests. They work on attraction. A healthy relationship, where the woman knows exactly what her man is attracted to, will drastically limit his wandering eye.
Also, the fear of losing the security will bring out the primitive in the man. If he knows beforehand that cheating is not tolerated and any such action will leave him alone, the survival instinct will conflict with the procreation urge and ironically create rational thought.
Men are driven to cheat, basically, because they have a willing partner whom they find attractive and alluring. To that end, there's no real "cure". But that drive can be greatly decreased by a strong woman who's willing to both cater to her man's needs and to strike the fear of god in his heart.
