How to Achieve Your Goals Faster By Tim Blackstock
Everyone makes lists of ambitions, New Year's resolutions, and simple daily to-do lists. However, not everyone accomplishes what they've set out to do. Some don't even get to accomplish half of their goals. This can be frustrating and disappointing, and it also defeats the purpose of goal setting.
So how do you achieve your goals faster and with more accuracy?
First, you have to think about your goal list and make it more specific. Include a list of steps or subtasks that will help you achieve your goal. Writing down "Be more romantic to my wife/girlfriend" isn't gonna cut it. You need to write down specific actions like "Buy her flowers every second and fourth week of the month" or "take her out on a date every week". Direct, specific actions should be in your list. It should be easy for you to objectively tell yourself whether you've accomplished these subtasks or not. This can help you focus more on the steps you need to take.
Next, have a deadline for each subtask and stick to the deadline. Make sure that all your deadlines are realistic, or else you might end up not accomplishing your tasks on time and feeling frustrated. Figure out how many hours you need to devote to this subtask, and estimate your deadline from there. If it helps, you can reward yourself with something special after you've completed tasks on or before their deadline.
When thinking about your goals, you also have to think of the shift in your personality after you've achieved them. Who will you become when you've successfully attained your goals? What benefits or privileges will you enjoy that you aren't enjoying now? If you think about the person you're going to be after you've accomplished your goals, then the end result is much clearer in your head. You can easily use this as motivation when pursuing the goals that you have set for yourself.
Sometimes, it also helps to have a friend on your side who is aware of your goals. He or she can check up on you once in a while to see if you're taking the necessary steps to accomplish them.
By laying out a specific goal list and focusing on the end result, you can accomplish all of your goals. Of course, it's not going to be easily, but having a clear plan will definitely make things easier and make the rewards come to you faster.
