How long after you start dating someone should you wait before having sex?

Hector

Dear Hector,

There's no hard and fast rule (pun intended, it's a gift). For some people dating means no sex as they have agreed to sleep only after marriage or when the situation has changed from dating to be a couple on their way to something more dynamic and exclusive.

For others, sex will happen after a set amount of time, no matter how much they may want it; they will hold out because they want the situation to be a little more than casual and for others it could happen after a few hours.

There's no shame in waiting if that's what you want to do, and though the mores and morals can be argued about, what two consenting adults decide to do is probably nobody's business but theirs as long as they aren't causing undue grief for others.
