Isnt it unfair that men get to ho around while women who do the same are labeled as sluts

My friends and I are having a dispute and its a battle drawn on gender lines: the guys in our groups say while they want to have sex before they are married, they might be attracted to marry someone who is a virgin. The women say this a hypocritical stance because the men are having sex with a woman so why would they then disrespect her or not consider her marriage material? Isnt saving oneself for marriage a way to keep women pinned down? And isnt it unfair that men get to ho around while women who do the same are labeled as sluts or worse?
Iona

Dear Iona
Saving oneself from marriage is an ancient custom dating back before there was such a thing as medical birth control. It guaranteed that if an infant was born within nine months of a marriage that it was the child of the husband and could be legitimate heir. Technology has changed so much that pregnancies can be avoided, but the pride factor has never been erased. What might have started out as a practical way of knowing a husband wasn't cuckolded has turned somewhat hypocritical. Given the medical advances, it is unfair that men and women cannot enjoy healthy, active sex lives without men being praised for it and women being condenmed.
