5 Ways to Protect Yourself from STDs By Tim Blackstock
Sex is one of the most beautiful and pleasurable experiences that anyone can have. However, there are some health risks when it comes to sex. STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) or STIs (sexually transmitted infections) are types of diseases that can be transmitted entirely or partially through sexual intercourse. If you want to stay physically while still enjoying an active sex life, you can protect yourself via the following ways:
Having a monogamous relationship. This works very well, but only if you and your partner are both uninfected. This is especially true of couples who have only had sex with their partner and no one else. If you and your partner are healthy and completely faithful to each other, then you have nothing to worry about.
If you don't have a monogamous relationship, have safe sex. First, you have to limit the number of people you have sex with if you want to lower your chances of getting infected. Don't forget to use a physical barrier such as latex condoms or diaphragms to reduce your exposure. Although condoms can be very helpful in protecting you from STDs, there's still a small chance that you'll get infected. Make sure that you regularly store condoms and other barriers just in case.
Avoid drugs. Remember that when you're using illegal substances, you won't be in your regular state of mind when you are “high”. This might lead you to forget about using protection if you have sex during this time. But if you are to use drugs, avoid taking them in via injection, and especially avoid sharing needles. This is one of the most common ways in which people get infected with HIV.
Get a regular medical exam. To make sure that you are 100% healthy, get a regular medical checkup that includes tests for STDs. This helps you catch the diseases before any symptoms show up. Also, your doctor can give you more advice on how to have safer sex.
Communicate with your partner's. It definitely helps to talk to your partner's about your limits and your intention to have safe sex. Sometimes you might just want to have oral sex or outercourse (dry humping, without any penetration), and it's important to let your partner's know this before the act itself.
It's very important to keep yourself healthy both sexually and physically. There's no need to sacrifice one for the other. By following these five simple sex, you can start your way to having a cleaner, healthier sex life.
