The Dangers of Sexually Transmitted Diseases By Sarah Joyce
Sexually transmitted diseases are extremely common among the sexually active society of America and other countries. While many people try to practice safe sex, many people are not well educated on sexually transmitted diseases and therefore many people do not even know they have the disease when they are sexually active. Because of this, many people actually spread STDs without even knowing they have one. Because of the sometimes vague Symptoms
of STDs, it is more important than ever that people become responsible and practice safe sex at all times. Below are the descriptions and symptoms of two of the more prevalent STDs around.
One type of STD is
Gonorrhea, caused by the Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacterium. These bacteria can grow and quickly multiply in warm, moist areas of the reproductive tract. This includes the cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes and urethra. In some instances, the bacteria has been known to grow in the throat, eyes, and anus. This form of STD is most common among teenagers, young adults, and African Americans.
Another type of STD is
Genital Herpes. Genital herpes is caused by the HSV-1 or HSV-2 infection, most commonly the HSV-2. Three fourths of the people who have Herpes show no signs of the disease, and is therefore very hard to detect unless a person is annually tested for all STDs, which is highly recommended. When there are symptoms, Herpes usually appears as one or more blisters surrounding the genitals or rectums. There blisters break, and cause tender sores that can take between two weeks and four weeks to heal when they first occur. Usually people who have had a first outbreak experience another outbreak several weeks or months later, usually lasting much shorter than the first occurrence.
There are many more STDs common among sexually active people throughout the world. Because so many of these diseases do not always cause symptoms, it is important that people practice safe sex and gain knowledge about sexually transmitted diseases, so that the number of people living with STDs does not continue to grow.
