The Debate over Sexual Education in America

Sex Education has been a topic for debate for centuries. Many people do not agree with who should be taught sex education, where it should be taught, or if it should be taught at all. There are two sides to this debate.

One side believes that teaching children about sex education in school is not a good idea. They believe that sex education will make them more interested in the topic and will there for cause them to be more sexually active. People also believe that some teachers might not be trained to properly teach the topic and may teach the students more about their beliefs and concerns instead of the facts. Another concern about teaching sex education in school is that the topic goes against some people's religious and moral beliefs that abstinence is the only way to have safe sex. Still another concern about sex education is that some students might feel embarrassed and cause the classroom to be uncontrollable.

There are also many pros to teaching Sex Ed in schools. Many believe that by teaching children about the facts of sex and diseases, it will teach them to be more safe and cautious about the act. Also, it has been proven that many students begin having sex before classes are even taught in schools, so the early implementation of these classes might cause students to be abstinent longer or at least practice safer sex. Still another good reason to teach
sex education
in schools is so students can determine if what is going on around them is normal. For example, sex education can teach children the difference between a "good touch" and a "bad touch" and help children to identify if they are being mistreated at home.

While the debate continues over the topic of sex education continues to be debated, there are many reasons for people to believe each side.
