With an iPhone, iPad, or any smartphone, mobile device or Internet-ready mechanism, any user can access a wide array of singles in their area or beyond. Some speed dating applications are set up to work more like the real thing. They blend elements of basic online dating sites and conventional speed dating. Users create a profile, pick out their matches, and then attend miniature three-minute dates via text messaging, voice or video conference. Other mobile dating applications veer directly into the adult category, like Grindr. With this app, users can find singles via GPS location and, if both parties agree, skip the formalities and meet up for a hook up. With the evolution of online dating devices, methods predating the Internet are quickly starting to be considered out of touch and even archaic. Instead of barrooms and friend-set-up blind dates, the power is literally in the users' hands to mix and mingle with whomsoever they choose. In another decade, none of us should be shocked to see the vast majority of the proverbial singles scene move to mobile devices. The how-to, cologne and breath mint markets might take a hit, but that's simply chalked up to the price of technology.
